Spooky Snake Skewers for Halloween
As the full moon rises and shadows grow long, these eerie snakes slither forth, ready to give your Halloween guests a thrill. But fear not, for they're not only a visual treat but also delicious and crispy!
Ingredients
- Pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Skewers
- Peppercorns
- Dried red chili peppers
- Optional: Salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, other grains, grated cheese for sprinkling
Instructions
Remove the pizza dough from its packaging and let it rest at room temperature for 15 minutes.
Divide the dough into 5 to 8 equal portions. It's easiest when the dough hasn't been rolled out yet.
Roll out each dough piece lengthwise and shape it into a snake-like coil.
Cut a dried red chili pepper in half and stick one half onto the pointed end of each skewer.
Wrap one end of the dough around the chili pepper, shaping it to resemble a snake's head. Use two peppercorns to create the eyes.
Wind the remaining dough around the skewer in a spiral manner.
Place the snake skewers on a baking tray or dish, ensuring they bake to a crispy finish all around.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F for about 10 minutes or until they've achieved the desired level of browning.
Serving Suggestion
For an enhanced flavor experience, you can sprinkle the dough snakes with salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, other grains, or shredded cheese before baking.
Present your Snake Skewers in a dimly lit setting adorned with cobwebs and artificial spiders to amplify the Halloween vibe. A green witches' brew or a "blood" cocktail completes the spooky atmosphere!
