Potion de Muerto - Halloween Drink 2022
The recipe for the Potion de Muerto
- 2,03 fl oz tequila
- 0,68 fl oz fresh orange juice
- 0,68 fl oz fresh lemon juice
- 0,68 fl oz agave syrup
- 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
- 0,5 fl oz beetroot juice
Shake all ingredients except the beetroot vigorously on ice and strain into a highball glass with crushed ice. Float with the beetroot juice. Drink.
How does it work and what other Halloween drinks can I make this way?
Pouring red, room-warm stuff into an orange liquid is something everyone who has ever made a Tequila Sunrise knows.
Add crushed ice to the equation and the fun looks a little bloodier, because the vegetable juice has to take a lot of forks on the way down.
It may not look all that bloody in its pure state, but mixed in a slightly lighter liquid, it becomes a luminously gory hazard.
Of course, this also works with the classic grenadine - but unlike that, beet juice has a finer sweetness, gives the drink a crazy earthiness and fits tequila like a glove.
If the Potion de Muerto is too grown up for you, you can of course mix a Tequila Sunrise on crushed ice and pour in beet instead of sugar. At least juices and agave syrup can be premixed. We would add the tequila just before serving - because of the perishable nature of the juice, it would be a shame if the stuff didn't get out.
